"Be Happy Bailee" - The Importance of Bees

Author: Cathy Stephen

The sun has just risen at Bee Happy Farm in the Midlands – the heart of KwaZulu-Natal.

Today you will be going on a journey to discover why the honey bee is so important to the world in which we live….”

This is an exerpt from my book “Bee Happy, Bailee” – The Importance of Bees. I created and wrote this children’s book based on the work that my son, Dylan, is doing to help make an awareness about the importance of bees and why we must save them from extinction. Dylan’s passion and knowledge of the honey bee – the correct hive to use, where to place them and what the best environment to create a happy medium for bees, is crucial for their future on this planet.

The book is two-fold, on the right hand side is a delightful story about Bailee the honey bee and her journey at HappyBee Farm, where she lives with the rest of her family. On the left side, the reader discovers wonderful facts about the honey bee, from the history of beekeeping to the different jobs of bees in the hive to an explanation about pollination and the importance and uses of honey.

Suitable for children up to 13 years who love nature and the outdoors.

"Animal Adventures"

Author: Hana Newlands

Hana is a young girl from Hillcrest. She wrote this wonderful story book about animals when she was 10 years old, a remarkable milestone after spending 3 years in a remedial school, not giving up on her dreams and facing many challenges. That is what makes this book a very special end product of an amazing journey of personal growth.

Reading stories is an activity that is a part of the most delightful period of childhood. Make bedtime even more fun for your child with some of Hana’s short stories which ends with a moral at the end of each story. Most of us have a natural curiosity about the animals we see around us and Hana brings you some wonderful tales with animals as the main characters and represented from a human point of view. Each story is about a different farm animal character and highlights a lesson learnt, such as the importance of listening to parents, not giving up and that there is nothing wrong with being different. By relating to these friendly animal characters children can learn values and attitudes that will help them in their daily lives. Hana would like her book to encourage every child out there to never ever give up, but to keep thinking big and to keep trying.

Suitable for kids up to 12 years
